The Dual Yellow Laser is FDA-approved for the treatment of vascular and benign pigmented lesions. It is based on advanced copper bromide laser technology and is able to treat a wide range of skin conditions e.g. vascular lesions, melasma, acne, etc. It is also very effective for overall skin rejuvenation, leading to brighter and smoother skin.
What is Melasma?
Melasma is a benign pigmentory skin disorder that occurs commonly in Asian skin. Although it can affect anyone, it is more commonly found in women, especially pregnant women, those on systemic contraception e.g. oral contraceptive pills, intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), etc. and hormone replacement therapy.
They appear as symmetrical dark patches over the cheeks, upper brow, temples and sides of the forehead.
How does the Dual Yellow Laser treatment works?
As its name suggests, the Dual Yellow Laser emits two different wavelengths, 511nm and 578nm. These wavelengths correspond well with the absorption peaks for vascular (haemoglobin) and pigmention (melanin) chromophores. The laser is able to reach the deep dermis and is absorbed by the pigment without causing collateral damage to surrounding skin.
The green and yellow lights emitted by the Dual Yellow Laser are effective for the treating and clearing of melasma. It works by suppressing melanin production at its source. In other words, the Dual Yellow Laser not only treats melasma, it also reduces the production of melanin so that recurrence rates are kept to a minimum.
What other conditions can the Dual Yellow Laser treat?
The Dual Yellow Laser can also be used to treat diffuse redness of facial skin, rosacea, facial acne, etc. It also causes an intense skin rejuvenation effect, leading to brighter, fairer and smoother skin.
Does the Dual Yellow Laser treatment have any downtime?
There is no downtime after the Dual Yellow Laser treatment. Patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately after their treatments.
When can I expect to see results?
This will depend largely on the patient’s pre-existing skin condition as well as the condition being treated. Skin whitening and brightening are normally visually appreciable immediately after the first treatment, but the best results are seen approximately after 6 to 10 treatments.
