Decorative tattooing has been practised for thousands of years. In primitive times, it was used for embellishment, whilst in some customs and cultures tattoos represented a sign of distinction or higher social standing. This remains the case today with some cultures. However, it has also become popular with everyday people around the world in the last 10 to 20 years.
