Cutera Excel V Vascular Laser

What is Excel V Laser?

The Excel V is a long-pulse NdYag Laser System for providing treatment of a variety of vascular lesions and benign pigmented skin conditions eg. small capillaries, veins, diffuse skin redness in rosacea, freckles, sun spots, etc.

How does the Excel V Laser machine work?

Excel V treats vascular conditions by administering a unique high-power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats the abnormal blood vessels causing the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the unsightly blood vessels will no longer be visible. Several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired clinical outcome.

How is the procedure performed?

You will first undergo a detailed consultation with Dr Ngiam to assess if the Excel V treatment is suitable for you. Next, a 15 to 30 minutes procedure will be done without the need for injections or topical numbing cream. Depending on the condition, Dr Ngiam will pass the Excel V handpiece over the affected areas of the skin until the abnormal vessels disappear. To minimize discomfort and protect the patient’s skin, the Excel V uses a proprietary contact cooling mechanism.

How many treatments are needed?

The number of treatments depends on various factors, including size, thickness and colour of the vascular lesion. Superficial blood vessels are usually the easiest to treat; some patients may see significant improvement after just one treatment.

Do the treatments hurt?

Most patients experience a slight stinging sensation as the pulses of laser energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anaesthesia or oral painkillers are required in the majority of cases, some patients may also opt to use a topical numbing cream prior to the treatment, the pain is usually minimal.

What are the possible side effects?

Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly seen are slight redness and swelling of the skin. Some patients may experience bruising and in very rare situations, blistering may occur.

When will I see results?

Most patients find that the majority of the treated blood vessels show significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
